Viroids are unique class of small pathogen which are divoid of capsid and consist of single stranded circular RNA molecule containing about 250-390 bases.
Human Disease:
Only Human disease Hepatitis D is caused by Viroids.
Animal Disease:
The disease , Scrapie ( Disease of Sheep) caused by Viroids.
Plant Disease:
Twenty plant disease have been reported in plant, caused by the viroids.The viroid disease do not significantly differ from virus disease in the morphological expression i.e, symptoms. Like virus diseases, the Symptoms like stunting, epinasty, mottling of leaves, vei clearing, localised necrosis and chrolosis etc.
The transmission of viroids in potato spindle tuber takes place through pollen grains and seeds. Insect vector have not been identified with any viroid transmission. If any plant becomes infected by viroid, there is no recovery.
