Socotra : An Island That Time Forgot | Imtiaj360

The Island with beautiful white beaches and clear blue water with colourful fish, it is Socotra. It is located between the Guardfui Channel and Arabian sea, the largest of four islands in Socotra Archipelago.

The Socotra islands total area is 3796 square kilometres. The highest point is Hajhir Mountains, Mashanig.


The site is of universal importance because its biodiversity with rich and distinct flora and fauna, 37 % of Socotra's 825 plants species, 90% of its reptiles species and 95% of its land snail do not occur anywhere in the world.

The primary occupation of the people have been traditionally fishery, animal husbandry and the cultivation of the dates.

In July 2008, this island was recognised by the United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as a world heritage site.
